Welcome to Dar-Iman
A well restored 400 year old townhouse off Talla Kbira (the main street in the medina) run by a Moroccan-Australian married couple. This house is great value for money. All the style points you’d except are in order, from zellij (Moroccan tiles) to tall hand painted cedar doors. The house has been put together in a laid-back manner less is definitely more here.as a large terrace for catching some rays or just relaxing.
A really friendly and welcoming place…
Kaoutar: studied law in Fez ended up with a law degree in French law, I the past 7 years has been the co manager of Dar Iman. Hospitality really came as a real shock to her, now she really love’s it giving her the chance to met and greet people from all over the world. As it happens she speaks French, English and several Arabic languages….
Max: husband of Kaoutar, has been living in Fez for the last nine or ten years. I originally moved to Fez to manage a renovation for a friend, that never worked out. A few years before that I meet a guy called Mike he seemed to be every where in Fez as it turned out he had just opened café clock. As fate would have it I ended up as the manager for almost 4 years. In that time I changed the menu for the better in fact some of my dishes are still on the menu. I was part owner of the very successful clock kitchen until Mike and I parted company. In the UK I worked in Event catering and back in Oz I owned a couple of restaurants. Have now been with Dar Iman since August 2012..

How to find us If you are arriving by Train or Bus both stations are in the villa nouvelle a taxi ride to the BLUE GATE (one of the main gates to fez medina) or AIN AZLETEN car park. From the blue gate walk through the gate for about 20 meters turn left at the first street you come to now straight ahead you will see Talaa Kbira turn right and we are about 200 meters down the hill you will see a Mosque (or the closed doors) on your left your street (Dar Ben Azahoum) you will see our sign outside the house.
Ain Azlaten car park walk straight ahead you will come to Talaa Kbira turn right and walk about 100 meters up the hill this time the Mosque doors will be on your right.
At both taxi drop off points you will find Kroussa (2 wheeled carts) they are used for moving pretty much every thing through out the medina including your luggage if you need help make sure your happy with the price before you let them load up.
Just a little advise if you are coming by train you may be approached by people offering you assistance and becoming your instant new friend they will have a uncle who has a shop or a Riad cheaper etc. be polite and friendly explain to them your all sorted do not tell them where your staying.
My friend and I stayed for four nights and it felt like leaving our family when our holiday came to an end. Max is such a great guy. He jumped to our rescue when we called the Dar at a point when we were being hassled by a ferocious aggressive tout. Max was really helpful with tips for navigating the medina and gave us some great recommendations for places to eat. The Dar is beautiful and great care has clearly been made restoring it with original features. We stayed in room 6 which was a good size for two friends. The room was cleaned and towels changed daily. The only slight comment I had is that there was not a hairdryer. Saying that I didn’t ask if there was one available from an empty room. Breakfast was hearty and very much set us up for diving into some medina shopping. I would absolutely recommend staying here when in Fez.
In the heart of the old city of Fès, this is a quiet little riad with beautiful rooms. Max and Kawtar, a Moroccan-Australian couple are wonderful hosts who will let you know about all that is currently happening in the medina. I have stayed here twice now (in a cold winter and a warm spring) and the rooms are always cozy, atmospheric and comfortable. Never mind what is happening outside, at Dar Iman you will be assured of hospitality and comfort. This is my preferred place to stay when I happen to be in Fès.
We were 4 days here echoing everyone elses praises.Location is perfect, advise, and company of Max and Kawtar very pleasant.Had to really stir ourselves to go out as it is so comfortable inside. Thanks for very relaxing stay.
After a long 8 hour drive over the Atlas mountains from Marrakesh, I arrived into the hustle and bustle of Fes El-Bali at night, and quite tired. I was instantly greeted by a friendly Australian chap, Max, who straight away made me feel at home and even gave me a beer. During our stay Max cooked some great breakfasts, drew some home-made maps of good cafes and locations, and was enthusiastic to talk about the town and offer up tips. The hotel itself is centrally located in the old town yet quiet (ignoring the calls to prayer from the many local mosques). The rooms are simple yet authentic feeling. A bargain. Max and his wife, Kawtar, provide an authentic Moroccan feel with the safe, reassuring feeling of also being at home.
I stayed here during the 10 day long Fes World Sacred Music Festival. The location made life easier as I could get to all the festival venues and other sights of Fes on foot. This place even organized a day trip to Mid-Atlas. The room was spacious, hot-water in the shower and decorated in local flavor and of course prompt cleaning and making beds. The best part of the stay was interacting with the lovely couple who run this place – nice, friendly, gentle, polite and very accommodative. Max the Aussie made a detailed hand-drawn map of the environs on my very first morning, even b4 I was ready and asked for it, and that really helped in getting oriented in that mind-boggling Medina. His filling breakfast would carry me thru to the evenings. His graceful Moroccan wife and him were always open for any queries I might throw at. I certainly would recommend this place for anyone looking to have a friendly breakfast-time and comfort on all fronts.
Our stay in Dar Iman was simply wonderful. The owners, Max and Kawtar, made our first visit to Fes unforgettable. The riad itself is a typical riad, very pretty, tiling, roomy, ect. The shower was always good which is a change from other riads I have stayed in. Roof terrace was very nice to relax on at the end of the day. Max was so helpful and really became part of our everyday experience, we would wake up and ask him what to do, and he would give us ideas for walks, places to eat and generally converse with us over breakfast. He loves Fes and knows so much about it. The value for money at this riad is amazing. The rooms are lovely, the breakfast simple and traditional, cooked by Max each morning and very nice. I could not recommend staying here enough. We will definitely be back and are looking forward to it very much. Thank you so much Max and Kawtar!
I highly recommend Dar Iman during a stay in Fes. Max and his wife are incredibly friendly and helpful hosts. Max had new recommendations every day about where to eat or wander. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the terrace has some good views. I will certainly stay here again on my next trip to Fes.
The couple that runs the place are very nice!we had a nice time leaving there…it is at the heart of the medina of fes and at the good part..the owner that comes from australia even made us a small written map full of tips and prepared us breakfast even the day we were leaving at 7 o clock in the morning…only the a/c had his own personality making syrange noises but this is negligible compared to the nice living room, the friendly owners and the fantastic location..thank you again!!
Very comfortable place in the heart of Fes medina. The staff is very friendly, they speak perfect english and the breakfast they serve is amazing!! We have been there two times in our trip in Morocco.
We absolutely loved our stay in Dar Iman. Not only was our room clean, large and decorated lovely, the owners Max and Kawtar made us feel very welcomed. Max went out of his way to give us guides, advice on restaurants and helpful information about Fes. Its a nice feeling to stay somewhere where the owners actually enjoy your company and giving advice 🙂 it was also great to chat to another fellow Aussie! If we ever go back we would stay here again in a heart beat. Brent & Emma 🙂
